Governance

MIDHOS' governance structure is designed to ensure inclusive input, strategic alignment, and effective decision-making across the consortium. At its core, MIDHOS members actively contribute to shaping priorities and initiatives. From within this group, the Steering Committee brings forward relevant topics, ideas, and emerging opportunities that reflect the breadth of expertise across the network.

MIDHOS Strategic Board

The MIDHOS Strategic Board is the central governing body of MeHDI & ORN, responsible for both strategic and administrative leadership. The Board guides the overall strategic direction of MIDHOS, it holds final decision-making authority, provides oversight and ensures alignment with the consortium’s strategic goals. It evaluates proposals and recommendations brought forward by the Steering Committee.

The Strategic Board is co-led by the two principal investigators:

Prof. Dr. med. Britta Maurer is the Director and Chief Physician of the University Clinic for Rheumatology and Immunology (URI) at Inselspital, Universitätsspital Bern, and a full professor of Rheumatology.

Dr. Maurer's translational research focuses on systemic autoimmune diseases, with special emphasis on interstitial lung diseases; she works on developing and applying new molecular-tools, advanced imaging modalities, and AI-based analyses for personalized medicine.

Dr. Maurer's clinic research encompasses the full spectrum of rheumatology, autoimmunity/inflammation, musculoskeletal medicine, and bone metabolism. She is also committed to mentoring young clinical and research staff, promoting diversity, and building strong academic and (inter)national collaborations.

Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Stettler is the Director and Chief Physician of the University Clinic for Diabetology, Endocrinology, Nutritional Medicine & Metabolism (UDEM) at Inselspital, and a full professor at Universität Bern.

Dr. Stettler's research is strongly translational, focusing on new technological approaches to improve diabetes care, human-computer interfaces such as AI and sensor/device data, and investigating metabolic processes under different conditions. Prof. Stettler also supports efforts to bring innovations from bench to clinic. He is recognized for contributions in various fields and has led numerous clinical trials, systematic reviews of device-based glucose management systems, and performed work on preventing hypoglycemia in exercise settings.
